La
descente de la Bendola est devenue mythique. Cela est dû à la longueur
et le dénivelé de son parcours qui, à l'origine, étaient
de plus de 16 km et 1600 m respectivement. Depuis l'interdiction de la partie
finale, ces valeurs sont ramenées à 14 km et 1400 m. Cette descente
reste bien entendu une grande course. Son profil est plutôt vertical dans
sa première partie et horizontal dans sa deuxième. Le premier
jour, vous dévalerez verticale après verticale, mais il y aura
aussi de longues sections de marche. Le deuxième jour, après le
bivouac prévu à la fin des rappels, ce sera marche et nage. Aucun
saut ni toboggan ne viennent "égayer" ce parcours qui se déroule
dans un décor grandiose et sauvage. Amateurs de sauts, s'abstenir! De
plus, il faut porter son couchage, des vivres et partager une partie des cordes.
Cette descente ne s'adresse donc qu'à des canyonistes en bonne forme
et habitués aux descentes sur corde.
La navette en voiture est très longue (30 km) et le départ se fait aux aurores. Le temps de progression effectif varie de 11 h à 17 h selon les participants. Le bivouac est conseillé. La Bendola est un affluent de la Roya, la confluence étant située sous le pittoresque village de Saorge.
The Bendola descent has become famous among the canyoning lovers crowd. It is mainly due to its length and difference in height which were 16 km and 1600 m respectively at the openning. Since the forbidding of the last section, it is now 14 km and 1400 m. This descent remains of course a great course. The profile is rather vertical in the first part, with some long horizontal sections, and horizontal in the second part. The first day, you'll abseil waterfall after waterfall (wet or dry), but with also some long walks. The next day, you'll have to walk and swim. There are no slides or jumps to add some fun to this itinary which meanders through a magnificent and pristine landscape. You'll have also to carry your sleeping bag, some food and share some ropes. No need to say the Bendola descent is for well trained and experienced canyonist.
The car shuttle is quite long (30 km) and an early start well advised. The effective time of progressing varies from 11 h to 17 h according to the members of the group. A bivvy is recommended. The Bendola creek is a tributary of the Roya. The junction is below the worth to be visited village of Saorge.
